I am a Cognitive Behaviour Therapist and have worked for Sussex Community NHS Trust as a Psychotherapist since 2009. I developed an interest and began to explore personal mindfulness practice in 1999 after being inspired by reading Jon-Kabat-Zinn’s book “Full Catastrophe Living”. This work inspired both an academic interest in the potentialities of mindfulness clinically; and a desire to connect with and nurture mindfulness practice personally through engaging in a personal mindfulness practice. It became clear to me, as my personal practice developed, that mindfulness practice enabled me to live my life with more present moment clarity and enabled an enhanced capacity for more self-compassion and understanding. My mindfulness practice has also been an invaluable guide for me in times of difficultly and challenge. As my career as a psychotherapist developed, I was keen to introduce and encourage mindfulness practice and cultivation as part of therapy. I was delighted to become part of my service’s mindfulness teacher team in 2013. I have been involved since then in facilitating Mindfulness Based Cogntvie Therapy (MBCT) groups regularly each year to primary care NHS patients. The delivery mode of MBCT courses I have taught has been via both face to face and on-line delivery. I have found my mindfulness teaching work in facilitating MBCT groups, as well as often using mindfulness skills and approaches in one-to-one therapy with patients, to be the most motivating and uplifting part of my work as a psychotherapist. I completed the Teacher training one (TT1) credentials in 2013. I have completed the more recent MBCT in IAPT teacher training course in 2024. I have taken an active role in my NHS service to facilitate peer supervision forums for mindfulness teachers to relfect on teaching and personal practice within the service I work in. I am due to undertake a Mindfulness supervisor training shortly in 2025 and look forward to developing my supervisory role as well as developing my Mindfulness teaching.
